Juliadoll - Departure

A new up-and-coming VK band! Joy. They have a bland singer! Not joy. Here's the low-down/down-low/whatever on this band.

It starts out with an enjoyable song... but he needs scream training.. From Ruki. He obviously wants to be Ruki, judging from his visuals. The music is a bit bland, too. Baby and Butterfly has some screaming and blah blah, but still fails to REALLY hook me. I'm a sucker for screamed vocals, but not ones like that. I can see these guys being something one day. The music isn't bad, at all, but it just isn't ear-catching. Departure sounds like it's gonna be crappy at first, but it just finds its way back on Generic Street. It's a shame because it's one of those singles that I was anticipating, alot. The visuals looked like those heavy-type bands, but they sound like any other group of girly dudes in makeup. Honestly, I think they should learn how to do both the soft AND heavy parts before playing boring music.

My verdict: Listenable but boring.

Sadie - GRUDGE OF SORROW/lynch. - a grateful shit

On the Sadie side, we have three songs of metalcore-esque ...(insert dramatic word here). I can't say I was really impressed. It's just a slightly advanced version of Trend Killer stuff. Mao's melodic parts are exactly like Trend Killer stuff, like the notes were just rearranged. It's kind of disappointing when you really think about it. I'd say GRUDGE OF SORROW and M.F.P. (Malicious Female Pigs? WHAT KIND OF TITLE IS THAT?) are the listenable ones, the latter more listenable. The guitar harmonies are nice, but they get stale when repeated over and over and, like Mao's vocals, rearranged. I don't know if I'll listen to the first two tracks much, but.. I guess this is good enough to call a release and not something randomly crapped out.

On the lynch. side, there's BUNCHES of creativity here. The switch from the screaming to a nicely written melodic chorus. It's singable, even. Hazuki finally breaks away from sounding like a Deathgaze vocalist and now sounding different. It makes me wonder: Are these guys REALLY on hiatus? If so, that's disappointing! They sound wonderful together, like Deadman. And plus, there's plenty of good songwriting to go around in there, and they seem like they're pretty good friends. So... Hm. Oh well, I hope to still hear Hazuki, because.. his voice is just wonderful.
